The course offers an interdisciplinary and strategic approach to the role of collectors in the dynamics of the art market. Over the course of five classes, participants will be introduced to the economic and cultural foundations of collecting, analyzing real collections and the transformations driven by new social and environmental values. Combining theories of art economics with perspectives from management, marketing, psychology, and social sciences, the course seeks to understand the factors that motivate and shape collectors’ behavior, both within and outside the traditional market circuit. Aimed at beginners and experienced collectors, artists, curators, cultural managers, and those interested in understanding collecting as a social and economic phenomenon, the course connects contemporary acquisition practices with themes such as sustainability, social impact, and cultural memory.
