Collection management policies can be developed in different types of memory institutions, including museums. These documents have the potential to collaborate not only in establishing procedures, but, above all, in consolidating criteria and concepts in collection management. Thus, the first objective of this course is to promote reflection on what a collection management policy is in the context of museums and what its main characteristics are.
In this sense, such policies can be developed in different ways, and there is no single methodology for this. However, it is possible to extract good practices from previous experiences and documents already available on the internet for consultation. The second objective of the course is precisely to address issues related to the process of developing management policies, based on case studies and practical group activities.
The course is aimed at people interested in the subject, as well as professionals in the area of museums and memory institutions who deal with collection management.
