This course offers a theoretical and practical overview of the development of Museum Plans, based on Brazilian legislation. It will cover the context of various museums in Brazil and how to develop strategic museum management plans collectively and collaboratively.
Starting with an introduction based on concepts and case studies, the classes will provide methodologies and activities to map out strategies for democratic, continuous, stable, and sustainable museum management.
The main objective of this course is to provide a foundation for conscious, ethical, and critical museological practice, based on the Museum Statute, which establishes the obligation to develop, implement, and update Museological Plans for Brazilian museums.
For those generally interested, students and professionals from municipal, state, or private museums, and people in continuing education in the field of museology.
Agenda
Class 1 - Museum Plans
- Introductions: instructor and participants.
- A theoretical overview and Brazilian legislation on museums and Museum Plans: Law No. 11.904/2009, which establishes the Statute of Museums; Law No. 11.906/2009, which created the Brazilian Institute of Museums – IBRAM; as well as Decree No. 8.124, which regulates the provisions of both.
Class 2 - The importance of strategic planning
- Conceptual basis for the operational chain of museums and the importance of Museum Plans for public and/or private management.
- Case studies: Pavilion of Brazilian Cultures, creation of a museum project based on federal regulations.
- The importance of Museum Plans for public and/or private management.
Class 3 - 1nd stage of the Museum Plan
- Characterization and conceptual planning.
- Diagnosis and strategic objectives of museums.
- Case studies: Museum of Primitive Art of Assis – SP and its first museological plan.
Class 4 - Continuation of the 1nd stage of the Museum Plan.
- Applying tools like SWOT, known in Brazil as FOFA – strengths, opportunities, weaknesses, and threats.
- The importance of the participation of museum workers and society in the process of developing museum plans.
- Case studies: Museum Plans of the art museums of São Paulo, MAM and Pinacoteca.
Class 5 - 2nd stage of the Museum Plan
- Development of institutional programs, research programs, collections, programming, communication, security, among others, according to the characteristics of each institution.
Class 6 - Continuation of the 2nd stage of the Museum Plan.
- Development of programs for educational and socio-cultural activities, human resource management, audience management, and architectural and urban planning management.
- Development of projects, monitoring and review of the museum plan.
