This course explores the various strategies used to insert photography into the conceptual practices developed by artists in the 1960s and 1970s, analyzing how these approaches continue to have an impact on contemporary art.

With the growing popularity of equipment and laboratories, photography has become increasingly accessible to the general public. We will see how photographic processes were used not only to create images, but also to incorporate reflections on everyday life and the dynamics of a consumer, circulation and reproduction market that was already expanding rapidly 50 years ago — and is expanding even more today.

The course presents works by renowned artists, many of which are part of the collection of the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art, and is organized into four classes. The first introduces the topic, while the others explore different ways in which photography was used in 20th-century conceptual art and its relationship with contemporary art.
