This course presents the method developed by the author to assess vulnerabilities and threats to collections. The content includes analysis of the building, its surroundings, internal environmental conditions, collections, and the users' perspective. At the end, participants receive a diagnosis with recommendations that identify risks to the heritage and to people, as well as actions to reduce or eliminate these risks. The objective is to support the maintenance, preventive conservation, and sustainable preservation of the institution.
The course aims to introduce participants to the basic concepts of cultural heritage preservation, initiating training in preventive conservation and risk management of collections. During the classes, the tools and instruments will be applied in a practical activity, which will take place during a visit to the MAM facilities.
This course is aimed at people interested in cultural heritage. It is recommended that participants already work in an institution that possesses a collection.
