In this conversation, the curators of the exhibition Look: MAM São Paulo visits Sesc Bom Retiro They share the processes, choices, and issues that go into creating the exhibition. Starting from the encounter between works from the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo and the Sesc Bom Retiro collection, the dialogue addresses the ways of exhibiting, mediating, and making public the experience with contemporary art, reflecting on the exhibition contexts, the forms of circulation of the works, and the relationships that are built with diverse audiences.
She is a cultural mediator who investigates the consequences of storytelling in education in museums and art exhibitions. She studied body arts communication at PUC-SP and specialized in art languages at Centro Universitário MariAntonia, where she began research and activities for the Histórias para Ver e Ouvir project (2011-). With experience in contemporary art, education, books and reading, childhood cultures, intangible heritage and museum audiences, he curates exhibitions and educational projects in schools, bookstores, libraries, museums and other cultural institutions, with attention to aspects of accessibility and diversity in the cultural management of multidisciplinary teams. Currently, she coordinates the education area at the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art, where she has worked since 2009. At this museum, she curated the exhibition Elementary: do it together (2023); designed the projects: Childhood Cultures Week (2012-), Word Body Festival (2021-) and Stories in the Garden (2022)-).
Valquíria Prates is a researcher, curator, and educator. She investigates the cultural mediation of visual arts and literature, with a career that integrates research, writing, curating, and education in museums, libraries, universities, schools, and other cultural institutions. She holds degrees in Literature and Pedagogy, a Master's degree in public accessibility policies from the University of São Paulo, and a PhD in Arts from UNESP, where she defended her thesis "How to do it together: art and education in cultural mediation." Her work articulates collaborative knowledge and practices of mediation in different territories and social contexts. Currently, she carries out projects with the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, the Moreira Salles Institute, the Roberto Marinho Foundation, the Inhotim Institute, and the Institute of Contemporary Art of Ouro Preto.
