Body Slam presents to the public its history and impulses that led to the creation of the first poetry battle involving deaf and hearing poets. They also present poem-performances in which languages sometimes differ, each one taking place in its own grammar; at other times, they intertwine. This time-space, sometimes parallel, sometimes indiscernible, we call Kiss of Tongues.

Slam do Corpo – group that researches and produces art, open to deaf and hearing people who are interested in Brazilian Sign Language. Since 2008, he has been developing documentaries, performances and poetic interventions that give visibility to deaf culture, using the city as a privileged space for propositions.

The Body Slam is the 1st poetry battle in Brazil with the participation of deaf and hearing poets. The project was born from our desire to experiment with poetic performances in a composition between Portuguese and Brazilian sign language. We start from pairs of poets who create and present poetry in both languages simultaneously, in their performances, sometimes the languages differ, each one happens in its own grammar; at other times, they intertwine. This event is called a “kiss of tongues”.
