The 13th Panorama, dedicated to sculpture, was organized with 44 artists and more than 170 works, with Emanoel Araújo and Nicolas Vlavianos receiving awards.

In the catalogue for this Panorama, the president of MAM at the time highlighted an apparent crisis in art, which would be a reflection, in the case of Brazil, of a general social crisis that had persisted for approximately two decades, considering that the country had been under a dictatorship since 1964. In this context of observed crisis, the 13th Panorama was dedicated only to “sculpture”, and not to “sculpture and object” as in previous editions. This suggests the return of a broader understanding of “sculpture”, as a work whose language is given in three-dimensional form, perhaps in an effort to simplify the debate, instead of amplifying the crises.
