15th Panorama of Current Brazilian Art: Art on Paper
The 1984 Panorama, dedicated to “art on paper”, covered categories that until then had been excluded from the exhibition because they did not conventionally correspond to “drawing” or “engraving”, such as photocopying, mail art and the making of paper itself. In the same vein, the following year’s Panorama, which would include sculpture and objects, was dedicated to “three-dimensional forms”.
The 15th Panorama was curated for the first time by Alberto Beuttenmüller, a member of the committee. The role of curatorship in the Panoramas, however, would only be consolidated from the end of the 1990s and beginning of the 2000s.
In addition to the 48 artists invited to the exhibition and the more than 140 works presented, the 1984 Panorama also featured a special exhibition featuring all the award-winning works from previous Panoramas dedicated to works on paper. On the occasion of the 15th Panorama, Alcindo Moreira Filho, Carlos Wladimirsky and Renina Katz were awarded prizes.
