The 25th Panorama was designed to be a special event, marking the eve of the 50th anniversary of the founding of MAM São Paulo in 1948. In addition to traditionally occupying the entire museum building, this Panorama also presented part of the exhibition in the Bienal Pavilion.

Curated by Tadeu Chiarelli and assisted by Rejane Cintrão, the 25th Panorama featured the participation of 36 artists and approximately 130 works. The curatorial texts in the catalogue elucidate that the selected works attested to the dilemmas experienced by the contemporary subject.

This was the Panorama that awarded the most acquisition prizes, including Nazareth Pacheco, Edgard de Souza, Iran do Espírito Santo, Vera Chaves Barcellos, Paulo Lima Buenoz, Rosana Paulino, Mario Cravo Neto, Paulo Pasta, Tunga and Paulo Pereira.

Since the 24th Panorama in 1995, MAM has established partnerships with other institutions so that the exhibition can travel after its closing in São Paulo. The 95 Panorama traveled to MAM in Rio de Janeiro, and its 25th edition in 1997 traveled to MAC Niterói and MAM in Bahia.
