The 27th Panorama was curated by Paulo Reis, Ricardo Resende and Ricardo Basbaum. The curators explored the possibility of collaboration between professionals in the field by presenting a map of alternative spaces (cooperatives, organizations, communities) that were added to the institutional context (museums, cultural centers, art galleries).
In this collaborative perspective, another book was published in addition to the exhibition catalogue. Understood as part of the curatorial project, the book had the free participation of all the artists and independent organizations invited to the 27th Panorama, with some of the guests presenting works only in the publication, and not in the exhibition space at MAM.

In total, 27 artists and organizations participated in the 29th Panorama, presenting 80 works. Continuing the change made in the previous edition, the 2001 Panorama no longer offered incentive or acquisition prizes. Instead, works from the exhibition (by Iran do Espírito Santo, Cao Guimarães and Rubens Mano) were acquired by the museum through sponsorship from PricewaterhouseCoopers.
