“What is Brazilian art?” This was the question that curator Felipe Chaimovich proposed for the 29th Panorama. The international scope of contemporary production was placed in dialogue with precepts of nationality founded by academic art, as the curators organized the 50 works by the 50 participating artists into eight groups: landscape, custom, still life, portrait, allegory, emblem, religiosity and history.

The MAM, with sponsorship from Energias do Brasil, acquired for its collection some of the works exhibited in the 29th Panorama, by artists Caetano de Almeida, Rodrigo Andrade, Roberto Bethônico, Paulo Bruscky, Marcelo do Campo, Franklin Cassaro, João Loureiro, Pazé, Pitágoras Lopes Gonçalves, Yiftah Peled and Mauro Restiffe.
