Itineraries and itineraries

More than an exhibition, the 32nd Panorama is a platform for discussing and decanting artistic processes. It is a reflection on the state of contemporary art which presupposes, especially in the last decade, an increasingly accelerated time. The consolidation of institutional programs, from the drafting of laws to encourage culture, the multiplication of notices, national and international residency projects, in addition to an overheating of the market, interfered and coexisted with transformations in artistic practice.

Itineraries, itinerancy addresses two temporalities: the quick, immediate response to a route, and the decantation of long-term processes, such as residences, living in groups, formation of networks. The exhibition is one of the instances in which this pause occurs. Among Panorama 2011's proposals is the invitation for some artists to work together with MAM Education, aiming to discuss the role of pedagogical work in museums. Educators are not just service providers and content providers to the public, but fundamental agents in reflecting on the movements between the various roles that people assume – artist, curator, visitor, educator – and the way in which art itself , has a formative role. The artists take on the role of educators and the Educative in the exhibition space.

Some central questions guided the research: When does the itinerancy between the roles of educator and artist lead to relevant experiences? When itinerancy decant waste, leftovers, leftovers and routes? When itinerancy decant plots, networks, circuits and collaborations? When itinerancy decant works of art and aesthetic facts? To what extent does facilitating travel indirectly provide a homogenization of contemporary production? In what sense does the continuous flow dilute some specificities and local identities in contemporary art? Does the specificity of the visual arts disappear as the contemporary artist constantly travels, works with any and all materials, themes or ideas, as well as interacting with cinema, sound or literature?

In view of these issues, the curatorship investigated the notions of permanence and movement in art, as well as intensities of time in artistic actions and attitudes towards the urgency of always being on the move. Mapping some notions of circulation and displacement in artistic practice, artists' bodies and thoughts allows us a broad view of the multiplicity of art in Brazil.
