In the 1976 Panorama, almost 250 paintings by 85 artists were brought together, with artists Takashi Fukushima and Wilma Martins receiving awards.
The 8th Panorama was the last in which the works of the artists awarded the Prêmio-Símulo were automatically incorporated into the MAM collection. From the following editions onwards, some of the awarded artists voluntarily made donations to the museum, although not always donating the same works exhibited in the Panorama.
Since the 1st Panorama, figurative painting and a new realism gained ground in relation to the abstractionism and geometry that were more present in the production of the 1950s. This was no different in the 8th Panorama, as reported in a review published in Folha de S. Paulo at the time, which highlighted the ways in which the exhibition captured this transition in post-concretist Brazilian painting.
