A Paulo Mendes de Almeida Library at MAM São Paulo It is a reference for the study and research of modern and contemporary art, and its bibliographical collection includes a vast collection of books and catalogues. In conjunction with the Luís Martins Study Center, which brings together documentation from personal archives of Brazilian art ideologists, as well as the institutional memory of the Museum itself, the Library offers unique materials from the field of arts to visitors and visitors.
The historical archive of MAM Sao Paulo reflects its own trajectory, therefore, to research its archival fund it is necessary to make a reservation about its past and remember that the Museum was established in 1948 and dismembered in 1962. During this period, the São Paulo Art Biennial emerged on the initiative of its patrons , Ciccillo Matarazzo and your wife Yolanda Penteado, from MAM. It was only in 1962 that the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo would be created. At the time, it was not unanimously decided to send the Museum's collection to the University of São Paulo, which then created MAC-USP. Therefore, since 1962, MAM's archival fund was divided between these three institutions. Currently, MAM holds the documentation linked to the period from 1963 to the present day.
This documentation, currently sparse, can be consulted in institutions Fundação Bienal de São Paulo e MAC USP. The documentation under MAM's custody is available, but is undergoing technical processing, with access upon request and scheduling.
The personal files, which are part of its collection, belong to the writer and chronicler Luís Martins and the writer Paulo Mendes de Almeida. There are also special collections of the painter Moussia Pinto Alves, by the artist Hermelindo Fiaminghi (partial background with newspaper library of drawings and photographs, in which another important portion of the artist's documentation is with the IAC), by conceptual artist Paulo Bruscky and the photographer Otto Stupakoff.
Most fund and collection documents are in technical processing and information can be requested via form and appointment.
