He has a master's and doctorate in philosophy from FFLCH USP. He is a professor at the Department of Arts at FAFICLA, PUC-SP, and chief curator at the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art. He is the author of several texts on art, including text in the catalog of the Mira Schendel exhibition, Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, Porto, and Pinacoteca de São Paulo and Tate Modern, London. He is leader of the research group in Art History, Criticism and Curation at PUC-SP (CNPq). Between 2016 and 2020, he was chief curator at the Brazilian Museum of Sculpture and Ecology, MuBE. In 2015, he was assistant curator of the Brazilian Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale and, in 2011, he was assistant curator of the 8th Mercosul Biennial (2011).
Amigo MAM 75 years

The São Paulo Museum of Modern Art is turning 75 years old. We scheduled a seminar to discuss the constitution and operations of modern art museums in Brazil. To broaden the debate and observe together the differences and similarities between museums that deal with modern narrative, we invited representatives from MAM in Rio de Janeiro, MAM in Bahia and MAMAM in Recife, and other important guests. Thus, we intend to reflect on the unique situations of its collections and exhibition programs, in addition to exploring its origins, proposals and actions – curatorial and educational.
The seminar program also contains a brief conversation about the two commemorative publications that MAM will launch in December 2023. These are two bilingual books that will be sold together: the first about the 75 years of history of MAM São Paulo, bringing together a range of almost fifty relevant texts that retrace and highlight different narratives about the institution's trajectory; and the second celebrating 30 years of the MAM Sculpture Garden, featuring an unprecedented photo essay by Mauro Restiffe.
About MAM Debate
MAM Debate is an initiative that, through seminars and publications, seeks to promote reflections, research and debates around issues involving modern and contemporary art and also others directly related to MAM São Paulo, its past and its activities in the present . It is a prospecting platform for possible actions by the museum in the future based on historical and emerging issues.

The first table of the seminar, entitled Modern art museums in Brazil: collection and formation of collections, brings together Caue Alves, chief curator at MAM São Paulo, daniel rangel, artistic director of MAM Bahia, Mabel Medeiros, artistic director of MAMAM Recife, and Pablo Lafuente, artistic director of MAM Rio. Together, representatives of the country's modern art museums will reflect on the unique situations of each institution's collections, in addition to exploring their origins, proposals and actions – curatorial and educational.
Cauê Alves
Daniel Rangel
Researcher, curator and cultural manager. Master in visual arts from the University of São Paulo (ECA USP), where he completed his doctorate. He is currently the director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bahia, MAC_Bahia; artistic director of the IPAC Museum Management Committee; research member of the IEA – Institute of Advanced Studies at USP; and curator of the Museu É Mundo Award. He was curator of the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia (2021/2023); artistic director of N+1 Arte Cultura (2016/2021) and artistic director of ICCo – Instituto de Cultura Contemporânea (2011/2016), both in São Paulo; member of the IPAC Museums Board, between 2008 and 2011. He carried out important curatorial projects in the last twenty years, in Brazil and abroad, in addition to publications and articles.
Mabel Medeiros
Administrator, specialist in art and education, her career is centered on the museum area with a focus on visual arts. Currently, she is the director of the Aloisio Magalhães Museum of Modern Art – MAMAM. Bachelor's degree in business administration, graduated from the Catholic University of Pernambuco, degree in artistic education\hab. fine arts from the Federal University of Pernambuco and specialist in art and education from the Catholic University of Pernambuco. She worked as an art educator/mediator in several cultural institutions and museums in the city of Recife.
She was coordinator of the Art-Education Center at the Murillo La Greca Museum [2008/2009] and also works as an art teacher. In 2009, she took over the management of MAMAM at Pátio, where she was responsible for the exhibition programming; management of the programming of activities carried out in the space; idealization, preparation and coordination of artistic residency and educational residency projects; general coordination of exhibitions and actions carried out in the space, as well as administration of internal routines and team management. In 2011, she took over the Conservation and Collections Management at MAMAM, later called Head of the Conservation and Collections Division, where she remained until 2017 coordinating actions in the Museum's collection. After this period, she became Head of the Administrative Sector of MAMAM, until the end of October 2018, becoming Director of MAMAM in November 2018, where she remains to this day. In 2021, she participated in the Research and Training Network in Exhibition Curation, coordinating the MAMAM nucleus. The Network is formed by the Bisi Silva Exhibition Curation Laboratory, UFMG School of Fine Arts, Research Center of the Aloisio Magalhães Museum of Modern Art – MAMAM/PE, Laboratory of ArtEducation, Curation and Stories of the University of Integration of Afro-Lusofonia Brazilian (UNILAB/CE), UEMG School of Design. As director of MAMAM, she coordinates institutional projects, is responsible for articulating actions and partnerships, as well as seeking financing and resources to carry out actions and programming, organized and coordinated the preparation of the MAMAM Museum Plan and is also responsible for managing the Museum's personnel and teams, among other pertinent actions.
Pablo Lafuente
He is a curator, writer and educator. He was curator of the 31st Bienal de São Paulo (2014) and Dja Guata Porã: indigenous Rio de Janeiro, at MAR (2016-17). He worked as a visiting professor at the Federal University of Southern Bahia in Porto Seguro, in 2015-16, and as coordinator of the CCBB Educational Program, in 2019-20. Since 2020, he has been artistic director of the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro.

In the conversation titled Education, creation and experimentation in modern space, the second of the program, perspectives and cases of educational action in institutions that deal with modern art will be considered, focusing especially on the experimental and assertive aspect of different proposals. The table has Claudio Rubino, coordinator of sociocultural projects at the Tomie Ohtake Institute, Gleyce Kelly Heitor, director of education at the Inhotim Institute, Izabela Pucu, general coordinator of Plataforma Mário Pedrosa and A Cooperativa Cultural, and Mirela Estelles, educational coordinator at MAM São Paulo.
Claudio Rubino
Cultural manager and illustrator. Person with disability, gay, active in the anti-disability struggle and for accessibility in culture. Bachelor's degree and degree in artistic education (Faculdade de Belas Artes de São Paulo), extension in semiotics in the arts (PUC-SP COGEAE), postgraduate degree in inclusive education with an emphasis on multiple disabilities (Unifesp). Specialist in contemporary cultural management (Itaú Cultural / Instituto Singularidades) and fashion design management (Senai). Master's student (paused) in creative economics and culture (UFRGS). Member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee at IDBrasil (Museu da Língua Portuguesa and Museu do Futebol), mentor for artists with disabilities in the Entre Arte e Acesso program, 2023 edition, at Itaú Cultural. He also worked on the implementation of the Sesc Art Education Reference Framework (2020-2021). Accessibility coordinator at Instituto Tomie Ohtake and consultant for DEF culture among various cultural organizations.
Gleyce Kelly Heitor
Educator, researcher and museologist. Graduated in history (UFPE), master in museology and heritage (Unirio-Mast) and PhD in social history of culture (PUC-Rio). She is currently Director of Education at Instituto Inhotim. She was director of Education and Research at Oficina Francisco Brennand (PE), director of the Center for Culture and Participation at Instituto Tomie Ohtake (SP), manager of Education and Participation at MAM Rio (RJ), pedagogical coordinator at Elã – Escola Livre de Artes (Galpão Bela Maré – Observatório de Favelas – RJ), teaching coordinator at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (RJ) and advisor and pedagogical coordinator at Escola do Olhar – Museu de Arte do Rio (RJ). Through international cooperation grants, he developed an internship at the Directorate of Mediation and Cultural Programming at the Louvre Museum (2016) and residency at the Directorate of International Relations at the Museum of European and Mediterranean Cultures – Mucem (2023). She has experience with implementing, monitoring and evaluating programs and education and training in cultural and artistic institutions, and with the development of museum plans based on participatory methodologies. She researches the relationship between contemporary art and education; the interfaces between museology and Brazilian social thought; the right to memory; and the articulations between social struggles and museumization processes.

Mirela Estelles
She is a cultural mediator who investigates the consequences of storytelling in education in museums and art exhibitions. She studied body arts communication at PUC-SP and specialized in art languages at Centro Universitário MariAntonia, where she began research and activities for the Histórias para Ver e Ouvir project (2011-). With experience in contemporary art, education, books and reading, childhood cultures, intangible heritage and museum audiences, he curates exhibitions and educational projects in schools, bookstores, libraries, museums and other cultural institutions, with attention to aspects of accessibility and diversity in the cultural management of multidisciplinary teams. Currently, she coordinates the education area at the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art, where she has worked since 2009. At this museum, she curated the exhibition Elementary: do it together (2023); designed the projects: Childhood Cultures Week (2012-), Word Body Festival (2021-) and Stories in the Garden (2022)-).

The seminar program also features a brief conversation about the two commemorative publications that MAM São Paulo will launch in December this year. On the table Conversation about commemorative books: MAM 75 years and Sculpture Garden 30 years, German Alfonso Nunez, researcher responsible for organizing the book about MAM's 75th anniversary, and Pedro Nery, MAM museologist and co-author of the main text of the book about the 30 years of the Garden, present the new publications. There are two bilingual books that will be sold together: the first, MAM São Paulo: Seventy-five years of history, brings together around 50 texts that date back and highlight different narratives about the institution's trajectory; And the second, MAM São Paulo: Thirty years of the Sculpture Garden, includes a text that addresses the historical and contemporary aspects of the occupation of this space, entries on each work present in its current configuration, and also features an unpublished essay by the photographer Mauro Restiffe. During the seminar, a pre-launch list will be made available at the MAM physical store to receive the box in December.
German Alfonso Nunez
He has a PhD in Art History from the University of the Arts London and conducted post-doctoral research at the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo (FFLCH-USP) and at Stanford University, with projects financed by the Fundação de Amparo to Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP). His focus of study is on the Brazilian artistic field of the second post-war period, with special attention to the social history of practices and institutions emerging in this period. He recently carried out a research project at the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art, supported by a scholarship from the MAM Research Laboratory.
Pedro Nery
He is a historian, museologist and curator. With a master's degree from the Interunits postgraduate program in Museology at USP, he develops research focused on the history of museum institutions and the formation of collections. He was curator of Rosana Paulino's retrospective, “Costura da Memória”, at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo and the Museu de Arte do Rio de Janeiro. He is currently Supervisor in Museology at the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art.

Moacir dos Anjos, General Coordinator of the Museu do Homem do Nordeste, Fundação Joaquim Nabuco, in Recife, and curator, ends the seminar with a speech on Perspectives for MAM. In addition to having already served as director of MAMAM (2001–2006), Moacir do Anjos was responsible for curating the Panorama of Brazilian Art at MAM São Paulo in 2007. His vast experience and institutional production will complement the debate with provocations and questions about the future of modern institutions like MAM São Paulo.
