temporary closure

The Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo announces the temporary closure of its facilities from August 26, 2024 due to the renovation of the Ibirapuera Park marquee. Designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer and listed as a Historical Heritage Site, the Park's marquee is undergoing a renovation of its entire structure and should fully reopen to the public in mid-2025.

Carried out under a contract from the Secretariat for Green and Environment of the City of São Paulo, the renovation of the marquee on the stretch of MAM is scheduled to take place from September 2024 to January 2025.

During the four months of the renovation, the entire artistic collection of the MAM will be removed and stored in a specialized warehouse with temperature and humidity control, as well as library publications, equipment and furniture, which will be housed in temporary spaces.

Exhibitions and activities

The calendar and all activities scheduled for the period will be maintained, thanks to the support and support of partner institutions such as the MAC USP and Fundação Bienal de São Paulo.

“The renovation of the Ibirapuera Park marquee will impact the day-to-day life of the museum, but it will bring many benefits to us and the city. In addition to being an architectural landmark, the marquee is a space that has always expanded the dialogue between the MAM and park visitors. We know the importance of this reform and reopening to the public. Based on careful dialogue, we are confident that São Paulo City Hall, through the Green Secretariat, will hand over the headquarters of the MAM, in January 2025, in perfect condition or even better than before”, he states Elizabeth Machado, president of the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo.

“We are grateful for the support from the Green Secretariat, Fundação Bienal and MAC, as well as other partners who promptly welcomed us and offered conditions for the continuity of our internal activities and for the public during this period”, he adds.
